Art Valley, Ascension 64
500.00m2
Conceived as a discreet yet powerful cultural landmark, this underground modern art museum is embedded within an art valley, allowing the natural topography to define its architectural identity. Rather than competing with the landscape, the project dissolves into it, preserving the continuity of the valley while creating an immersive spatial experience below ground.
The design strategy is rooted in contrast — between light and shadow, solidity and void, texture and smoothness. Carefully orchestrated light wells, linear skylights, and concealed apertures introduce controlled daylight into the subterranean galleries. These “light games” transform the perception of space throughout the day, creating dynamic atmospheres that interact with the artworks and enhance visitor experience.
Material transitions are intentionally exposed and celebrated. Raw concrete surfaces meet refined stone, metal, and textured finishes, revealing the tectonic logic of the structure. The changes in materiality guide circulation, define exhibition zones, and heighten spatial awareness. Rather than concealing construction, the project embraces structural honesty as part of its architectural narrative.
The result is a contemplative and immersive museum environment — a contemporary cultural space where light, material, and landscape converge to frame modern art within a powerful subterranean setting.
